1. Trap shooter Ronjan Sodhi, the first Indian to win two back-to-back World Cup gold medals, was, on Tuesday, recommended for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, while cricketer Virat Kohli was among the 14 sportspersons picked for the Arjuna award by the selection committee. Rising badminton player P V Sindhu, who became the first Indian woman shuttler to clinch a bronze medal at the recent World Championships, was also in the list of 14 sportspersons picked for the Arjuna award.

2. Nadal beats Raonic to win Montreal Masters. Fourth seed Rafael Nadal of Spain routed Milos Raonic 6-2, 6-2 to capture the ATP Montreal Masters Title on Monday. It was a dominating victory in which the big-hitting Canadian's serve was all but nullified by precision returns from Nadal.

3. Ibrahim Boubacar Keita won Mali's Presidential elections on 12 August 2013 after his opponent Soumalia Cisse conceded defeat before official results were announced.

4. China is set to overtake the United States as the world's largest net oil importer from October, according to US figures, due to a combination of rising Chinese demand and increased US production.

5. Global financial services firm Credit Suisse has lowered India's growth forecast for this fiscal year to 6 per cent from 6.5 per cent, and for financial year 2014-15 to 7 per cent from 7.5 per cent earlier.

9. Chinese internet service companies looking to crack the Indian market have notched up another milestone with Chinese firm UCWeb’s mobile browser becoming the most used browser in India, according to recent data from StatCounter.

10. Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed a Bill to make registration of marriages mandatory. The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2012, which was passed by voice vote, seeks to provide compulsory registration of marriages irrespective of religion.
