Gulzarilal Nanda was the first deputy chairman of Planning Commission. He was deputy chairman of Planning Commission from 17th Feb, 1953 to 21st Sept, 1963.


Gulzarilal Nanda has also held various important ministries of Home affairs, External affairs, irrigation, power and planning. He was also acting Prime-minister twice after the sudden demise of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri. He was awarded Bharat Ratna by Government of India in 1997.

1898 - Born on 4th of July.
1922 - Became Ahmedabad Textile Labour Organization secretary.
1937 - Elected in Bombay Legislative Assembly.
1946 - Became Labour Minister of Bombay.
1947 - Attended International Labour Conference in Switzerland.
1951 - Planning Minister of India.
1952 - Minister of Planning, Power and Irrigation.
1953 - Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission.
1957 - Union Minister for Labour, Planning and Employment.
1962 - Union Minister for Labour and Employment.
1963 - Union Minister for Home Affairs.
1964 - Acting Prime Minister (Death of Pandit Nehru).
1966 - Acting Prime Minister (Death of Lal Bahadur Shastri).
1997 - Bharat Ratna.
1998 - Death on 15th July.
1999 - Stamp released.
